In an unofficial ranking of legendary duos, Method Man and Redman can be found somewhere between love and marriage and peanut butter and jelly. Meth and Red would only release two proper albums together—three if you count the How High soundtrack—but their presence as two of ’90s hip-hop's most charming MCs, along with the impact they had on entertainment at large (How High, yes, but also Redman's MTV Cribs episode!?), maybe even supersedes the music they made together and apart. Meth hailed from Staten Island and Redman from New Jersey, but they were East Coast representers in the world's eyes and went on to become anchors of an unimaginably talented Def Jam Recordings roster. Both were (and are) remarkably prolific, known for standout contributions to their respective crews (Def Squad for Redman and Wu-Tang Clan for Meth), and then decades-long solo careers. They'd capitalize on their unprecedented chemistry to the point of collaborative albums and a major motion picture, based on little more than their affinity for weed and the fact that they were consistently charming and cool. Hip-hop's most beloved stoner duo reunites for another classic Verzuz celebration on April 20, 2021.
