Rock band Flyleaf’s self-titled debut took more than 18 months to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Album chart, where remained for 156 weeks. ∙ Formed in Texas in 2002, the band originally called themselves Passerby, until changing to Flyleaf, the term for the blank page at the beginning and end of a book. ∙ According to lead singer Lacey Sturm, their 2007 Platinum single, “All Around Me,” is “a song about meeting God.” ∙ Rolling Stone named Flyleaf one of 2008’s Breakout Bands. ∙ In 2009, the band undertook an acoustic tour of military bases in Afghanistan to perform for American troops. ∙ Their sophomore release, Memento Mori, debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart, and also topped the Alternative, Christian, and Hard Rock album charts. ∙ Memento Mori was nominated for Rock Album of the Year at the 2011 Dove Awards.
