About Black Stone Cherry

Hard rock band Black Stone Cherry’s name was inspired by a brand of flavored cigars. ∙ Drummer John Fred Young’s father and uncle are founding members of the long-running Southern rock outfit The Kentucky Headhunters. ∙ The band’s earliest practice and songwriting sessions took place inside an old shed that The Kentucky Headhunters had been using since 1968. ∙ After Black Stone Cherry recorded their self-titled 2006 debut album, frontman Chris Robinson’s former principal invited them to play a homecoming show at the local middle school in Edmonton, Kentucky. ∙ The music video for “The Rambler,” from their 2016 album Kentucky, features country star and fellow Kentuckian Billy Ray Cyrus. ∙ Despite their rock background, Black Stone Cherry topped the Billboard Blues Albums chart with 2017’s Back to Blues, which includes covers of Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters classics.
