10 Songs, 29 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

For years, Heartbreak Gang ringleader Iamsu! has had a knack for synthesizing bubbly Top 40 pop trends with the raw bounce of the Bay Area. Blessed, the rapper/producer’s second album of 2018, feels like a grab bag of West Coast good vibes—from the slinky G-funk of “Young & Innocent” to the gangster minimalism of “Can’t Make This Up” to “Lee Pipes,” a self-reliance anthem made for beach bonfires. The only real diversion is the Future-esque “Chosen”; otherwise, these are songs that could’ve come only from California.
