After initially rising amid a youthful wave of Atlanta rap talents in the late 2010s, Lil Gnar showed his staying power with the release of 2022’s DIE BOUT IT. Some three years later, he doubles down on that project’s promise with IN MY GLORY, a trunk-rattling set where his raspy, half-sung rhyming hits as hard as ever. He crafts snappy hooks and angular rhyme schemes even in the noisiest environs, demonstrated on “Crack Dat” and the blown-out “Pass Da Lighter.” Adding to the momentum are repeat collaborators like Ski Mask the Slump God and UnoTheActivist, who bring their subversively impactful styles to “Beam” and “Soar (Rocket Power),” respectively. Yet he also links with some less expected artists, tapping a punchline-prepped 2 Chainz for the gospel-tinged “Prayer” and KARRAHBOOO on the casually narcotized “Higher Than Yall.” Naturally, his 43B label boss Chief Keef comes through with multiple features, getting brazenly raunchy on “Welcome 2 Da Game” and dropping bands on brands for the drill redux “Almighty Gnar.”
