With its pretentious title and titillating album art, amorica. found the Crowes aspiring to the same pedestal as the Faces, Led Zeppelin, and the other pantheonic classic rockers they worshipped. They prove their place with gorgeous, ambitious numbers like "Wiser Time," an aching, meandering ode to the road; the high-flying "A Conspiracy"; and the confessional blues lament "Cursed Diamond." They also expand their palette, incorporating Latin boogie on "Gone," acoustic barrelhouse funk on "Downtown Money Waster," and morning-after psychedelia on "Descending." Status earned.
