George Jones: Influences

Jones may be among country's most masterful singers, but he had to learn his trade somewhere. The haunted honky-tonk holler of Hank Williams undoubtedly influenced Jones' approach to sad songs, and the jazz-informed phrasing of Lefty Frizzell definitely taught Ol' Possum a thing or two about timing. But let's not forget the debt Jones' early rockabilly period owes to Elvis Presley, either.
