About "Little" Jimmy Dickens
Country vocalist Little Jimmy Dickens was a flashy and oft-humorous performer known equally for his diminutive physical stature and larger-than-life personality. An excellent singer with a twangy, piercing voice as classically country as a hay wagon, Dickens found his greatest success with novelty songs such as “Take a Cold Tater and Wait” and “May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose.” Also a master of the weepy ballad, Little Jimmy was discovered by Roy Acuff and joined the Grand Ole Opry in the late 1940s, becoming one of the long-running show’s most colorful and best-loved members.
