Brittany Howard immediately established herself as one of rock’s most formidable forces when Alabama Shakes debuted in the early 2010s, with a voice that seemed to give her band’s R&B-tinged jams divine provenance. In the years following, she has been both prolific and versatile; in addition to leading Alabama Shakes, Howard dabbled in gritty garage rock with Thunderbitch, steamed up the windows with John Legend, and chilled out with her rootsy trio Bermuda Triangle. Her 2019 solo debut, Jaime, widened her palette and deepened her resolve, as she commanded intricate songs that took cues from looping hip-hop and stretched-out psych-soul.
