About The Wombats

Indie rockers The Wombats scored a trio of Top 10 albums at home in the UK and in Australia with their uptempo, pop-leaning sound that’s heavy on electronic and post-punk influences. ∙ The Wombats’ members met at Paul McCartney’s famed Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and the legendary musician later called them one of his favorite bands. ∙ “Let’s Dance to Joy Division,” from 2007’s A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation, won Best Dancefloor Filler and earned them a Best New Band nod at the NME Awards. ∙ “Anti-D,” one of several hits from 2011’s Gold-certified The Wombats Proudly Present: This Modern Glitch, was inspired by frontman Matthew Murphy’s longtime mental health struggles. ∙ The 2015 single “Give Me a Try” received heavy airplay on Alternative radio in the US, making Glitterbug their first album to earn a spot on the Billboard 200. ∙ As a solo artist, Murphy scored a Top 10 UK hit in 2019 with “My Cheating Heart,” which was recorded under the stage name Love Fame Tragedy. ∙ They appeared on the iconic Australian soap opera Neighbours, and more than a dozen of their tracks have made the Triple J Hottest 100, an annual list of Aussies’ favorite songs.
