About Daughter

Formed in 2010, English indie-folk trio Daughter was singer-songwriter Elena Tonra’s solo project before she teamed up with guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella. ∙ Their second EP, Wild Youth, drew attention in the US when their hushed indie-folk songs began regularly appearing during emotional moments in such TV shows as Grey’s Anatomy. ∙ If You Leave, Daughter’s full-length debut, charted in eight different countries and was honored as Album of the Year at the 2013 AIM Independent Music Awards. ∙ The band’s Ivor Novello-nominated score for the video game Life is Strange: Before the Storm was inspired in part by Tonra’s memories of a difficult adolescence. ∙ Tonra’s solo debut, Ex:Re—written on her own because she felt the material was too personal to share with her bandmates—was named one of Rough Trade’s Albums of the Year in 2019.
