Tift Merritt

Singer/songwriter Tift Merritt is a triple-threat artist -- a gifted and expressive singer, a superb, evocative songwriter, and a skillful guitarist. While often lumped in with the Americana community, Merritt's music has just as much to do with contemporary folk or the classic singer/songwriters of the 1970s in her unpretentious literacy and broad emotional range. She made a striking debut with her first two albums, 2002's rootsy Bramble Rose and 2004's soulful Tambourine, and after a sojourn in Europe, she followed her muse with 2012's artful Traveling Alone and 2013's Night, the latter a collaboration with classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein. In 2025, as Merritt reissued Tambourine, she also released Time and Patience, featuring home recordings of several of the songs in spare, unadorned form.
