About Shelby Lynne
Singer/songwriter Shelby Lynne may have launched her career in Nashville, but that career has largely been defined by the first album she released after fleeing the mainstream country scene. Born in Quantico, VA, in 1968 and raised in Jackson, AL, Lynne experienced the murder-suicide of her parents at age 17, a trauma that would inspire some of her heaviest work. Following a duet with George Jones (“If I Could Bottle This Up”), she released her Billy Sherrill-produced country debut, Sunrise, in 1989. A decade later, she moved to Southern California and recorded the critically acclaimed pop-rock pivot I Am Shelby Lynne, which nabbed her a Best New Artist Grammy in 2001—six albums into her career. Just a Little Lovin’, her 2008 acoustic take on the music of Dusty Springfield, garnered her best sales to date. After Not Dark Yet, a richly harmonized 2017 collaboration with her younger sister, Allison Moorer, Lynne’s songwriting continued to mature and deepen on albums such as 2020’s intimately autobiographical Shelby Lynne.
