Urban contemporary gospel singer James Fortune won an ASCAP Award for Gospel Song of the Year for his 2004 debut single, “You Survived.” ∙ Released as a single in 2008, “I Trust You” remained on the Gospel charts for more than a year—including a historic 29-week run at No. 1. ∙ Fortune’s 2012 album, Identity, earned him two Grammy nominations: Best Gospel Album and Best Gospel Song (“Hold On”). ∙ With guest verses from R&B star Monica and gospel legend Fred Hammond, “Hold On” was a crossover hit for Fortune in 2012. ∙ In 2020, the worship ballad “Nobody Like Jesus” became his seventh No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart.
