No Trend

About No Trend

On the outskirts of Washington D.C.’s powerhouse early 80s hardcore scene, No Trend worked up an original, antagonistic antidote for punk conformity. Instead of the hyper blasts of rigid punk noise that their audiences expected, No Trend played a slow, anarchic cacophony of lounge-jazz horns and hypnotic post-punk repetition. Their six years together under the stewardship of singer/lyricist Jeff Mentges saw them evolve into a singular underground phenomenon, dedicated to pushing boundaries and buttons, unafraid to introduce country music and orchestral sounds alongside punk, metal, and Mentges’ unhinged, anti-social rants.
