iamnotshane

Singer-songwriter iamnotshane, born Shane Niemi in Los Angeles, self-released his debut EP Sad in 2016—from which the single “Insecure” soon went viral thanks to its music video’s Michael Jackson–inspired choreography. He then issued a string of singles leading up to the 2020 release of the iamnotshane EP, inspired by underground dance music in Berlin and Eastern Europe. His 2021 album One Less Year Alive—later re-released in 2024 as a deluxe with five additional tracks—features the introspective “What a Perfect Day for Crying,” and the 2024 album Chasing the Wind offers the breakout “Maybe My Soulmate Died.” His catalog marries macabre themes with ethereal, synth-driven pop, evidenced on tracks such as 2021’s “You’re Dead to Me, I Hope You Fail,” 2022’s “What Doesn’t Kill You Mutates and Tries Again,” and 2024 releases “The Strategy of Satan” and “It’s Halloween!”
