After completing their tenure with CBS, Heart moved over to Capitol and revived their career with a vengeance by scoring a streak of Top Ten singles. Greatest Hits 1985-1995 gleans the best from this productive period, mixing some worthy lesser-known tracks with the famous tunes. Band leaders Ann and Nancy Wilson filled the airwaves of the ‘80s with muscular-yet-melodic power ballads, heavy on romantic melodrama and ear-snagging hooks. “What About Love?,” “Never,” “These Dreams,” “Alone” and “All I Want to Do is Make Love to You” showcase Ann’s powerhouse vocals over hefty guitars and solid rhythms. There was more to Heart than just thunderous torch songs in those days, however — the bluesy, strutting rocker “Tall, Dark, Handsome Stranger” and the folk-tinged “Back to Avalon” show that the group hadn’t completely devoted themselves to cranking out radio hits. The hard-to-find “Surrender to Me” (an Ann Wilson/Robin Zander duet from the 1988 film Tequila Sunrise) and a studio version of the inspirational “You’re the Voice” round out this well-chosen collection.
