Prior to the release of the fifth entry in Starlito’s Starlito’s Way series, the Nashville-born rapper had taken a decade away from it. Starlito’s Way 4 arrived in 2017, and nine years later, he’s revived the series alongside a familiar name: Don Trip, with whom he’s also created the Step Brothers series. On opener “CATHARSIS,” both artists take the title as a cue and run through their feelings with vulnerability and specificity. On the Jelly Roll-assisted “SHADOW WORK,” Starlito uses the country star’s emotional chorus as a springboard to reckon with his own shortcomings. Over acoustic guitar and pedal steel, he raps: “Seems like everything’s changing/I can’t adjust or explain it/So accustomed to danger/ Yeah, it’s no wonder I’m angry.” On STARLITO’S Way 5, the MC looks everywhere for peace.
