Released in 1991, Live Baby Live was INXS’s first live album and features performances from a fair number of cities on the Summer XS Tour, in support of the band's then-current album, 1990’s X. The album received some controversy for its studio touch-ups, though the band claim they only fixed two moments (and, if truth be told, it’s the rare live album that doesn’t receive a bit of post-production). Besides, there’s no faking the rapport with the audience heard on “Mystify,” where the fans know the words as well as singer Michael Hutchence. Songs such as “New Sensation,” “Guns in the Sky,” “Need You Tonight,” and “Mediate” deserve these arena-sized audiences, and even the ballad “By My Side” works well as a communal moment between Hutchence’s heart and tens of thousands of his closest fans.
