SABIA

SABIA

Now essentially just singer/accordionist José Darey Castro, Los Dareyes De La Sierra seems to have hit its stride by signing with Double P Records. After making a rather collaborative splash on the label with 2025’s Redención, the corridos-centric act returns scarcely a year later with this robust, unaccompanied follow-up. Over the course of its 21 tracks, SABIA showcases a dynamic artist fully cognizant of his strengths. His pivot to the tumbados style continues to pay off, beginning with the narcotized and highly confident opener “TRANKIS MORRIS.” More in this transgressively popular vein include the vice-laden yet inherently heartbroken “MATCHA,” documenting one hell of a breakup-fueled bender. Some of the material skews more classical in its lyrical content, namely “TETRICO” and the emboldened “SAYKO,” while other songs, like “PARADISE,” mix in a bit of romance. Though features don’t factor in here as on Redención, the presence of Puerto Rican collaborator DJ Dímelo Ninow on a four-song sequence between “NI SUMA NI RESTA” and “CRISPY CREAM” introduces a surprise reggaetón element over which Castro undeniably thrives.
