Más Cara

Más Cara

After first emerging on the global scene nearly a decade prior with her Slow Wine Mixtape, Bad Gyal demonstrates stylish and stylized progression on Más Cara. Emboldened in recent years by hits with KAROL G and Omar Courtz, the Barcelona-hailing artist follows her 2024 full-length debut La Joia with another set of dance-floor-primed baddie fare here. Her preferred retro-futuristic sound, often rendered in reggaetón or dancehall forms, gives this sophomore album a consistent rhythmic foundation over which she unequivocally thrives. From the opening title track and the fever-pitched “Da Me” through the clubby riddim expressions “Fa$hion Killa” and “Fuma,” she gives her characteristically effect-laden voice room to explore. To that end, she tries out hip-hop throwbacks on “Un Coro y Ya :)” and the Tyga-esque “Gatitas.” As with La Joia, the Más Cara guest list includes some heavy hitters and notables from elsewhere in the Latin music world. Obviously, much of that comes from the Caribbean, via duets opposite Chencho Corleone on the thumping “Choque” and Ozuna on the tropical “Última Noche.” But it’s the united femme fronts of “Hoy Te Toca” with Jenny La Sexy Voz and “Muñeca” with De La Rose that reinforce Bad Gyal’s brand.
