The dance-punk firebrand returns from a decade-long hiatus, countering our increasingly disembodied reality with a jolt of unabashed human horniness. Much has changed since Peaches emerged with her 2000 cult classic album The Teaches of Peaches, an electroclash homage to explicit sexual pleasure that soundtracked Lost in Translation’s strip club scene. But on No Lube So Rude, the 59-year-old queer icon is still pushing the envelope when it comes to self-expression and bodily autonomy. Updating her classic sound with hints of hyperpop, techno, and trip-hop, she rails against the status quo as only Peaches can: Surely “Fuck How You Wanna Fuck” is the first song this century to employ the phrase “Starlink anal beads.” When she’s not rapping about hanging titties (her words), she’s fighting for her rights, howling on “Not in Your Mouth None of Your Business”: “I cannot be squashed or minimized/You will never take away our pride.”
