The recording project of New York-based songwriter Joe Sutkowski, Dirt Buyer has never been shy. On Dirt Buyer III, everything from the simplicity of the album name to song titles like “Bullshit Fuck” and “Me Before You” suggests that Sutkowski will bring forth his message with transparency and honesty. Even from the opening moments of alt-rock opener “Baseball,” Sutkowski presents things matter-of-factly: “Baseball is something I never get/But I sleep on it, wake up, try again.” Over shoegaze guitars and sloshing drums on the viscerally frustrated “Bullshit Fuck,” Sutkowski growls, “I’m sick of all the bullshit fuck/Hit me with a fucking truck.” Despite the trauma and frustration that informs much of Dirt Buyer III, Sutkowski displays a gamut of emotions on closer “When You Were a Kid,” showcasing the deft touch necessary to sound this jaded.
