On the third of his Injayam albums, South African hip-hop DJ and producer DJ Sliqe continues to curate exciting collaborations. For the first half of the project, he recruits top names from SA’s contemporary hip-hop talent scene, combining new stars with OGs to create unique moments. Veterans Emtee and Cassper Nyovest share a laidback trap beat with breakout Durban hip-hop star Usimamane on “Vuka”; Flow Jones Jr. hangs out with Qwellers over a heavy trap beat on “iJuzi,” and later, the 10-man Qwellers crew delivers the bouncy “iMashile.” Pretoria rapper Mochen and Capetonian Orish link up on “Hamba Nawe,” while Ason celebrates his wins with melodic raps on a solo joint “Victory Lap.” Disc 2 of Injayam, Vol. 3 is predominantly amapiano and kwaito. Blxckie is at home on the mellow amapiano love song “Enamehlo,” a duet with Nkosazana Daughter. On “Emmanuel,” Focalistic and Yanga Chief ride a lush kwaito beat carried by jazz horns and an interpolation of late kwaito legend Magesh’s 2001 single, “It’s Alright (I See You).”
