On Girls, Girls, Girls, the Crüe trade the glittery pleasures of Theatre of Pain for raunchy hard rock and metal that are perfect for sneering bikers. They still bust plenty of hook-laden choruses, but as the title track reveals, their sound is now buried under thick, snarling licks and Tommy Lee’s pummeling beats. Their subject matter also takes a turn toward darkness: Both the murky rager “Wild Side” and the cowbell-pounding “Five Years Dead” capture the sound of a band drowning in their own excesses.
