Beyond effervescent electro-pop earworm "Bruises," Chairlift's debut album is quite an avant-garde affair. The Brooklyn trio amble through myriad sounds, folding '80s-style synths into trippy psych-pop seductions ("Garbage"), dusty spaghetti westerns ("Earwig Town"), breathy French-pop flirtations ("Le Flying Saucer Hat"), and sci-fi epics ("Territory"). Weaving it all together are Caroline Polachek's crystalline vocals, which flit and float through every twist and turn with ease, before beautifully evaporating into a lush bed of drones on dreamy closer "Ceiling Wax."
