Nothing in this world is certain but death, taxes, and a new project from Chief Keef every few weeks. The former Chicagoan seems content in his curious little corner of the rap universe, pumping out records at a baffling rate; Back From the Dead 3 is his ninth release of 2018. Within the lineage of his Back From the Dead mixtape series, this one skews closer to the loose, experimental bent and trippy, often self-produced beats of its more recent predecessor; “Bestie” sounds as though it samples a drunken accordion, and “Baseball Bat” has the effect of a haunted funhouse. Is it an essential entry in the sprawling Sosa catalog? Probably not, but it’s an intriguing listen all the same.
