About Amaal Mallik
Born into a musical family synonymous with Bollywood hits, Amaal Mallik was destined to work in the business—becoming a composer, producer, singer and lyricist in Indian film music and pop, renowned for his party anthems, sentimental ballads and rock-infused hits. A pianist since he was eight years of age, Mallik learned the music trade from industry professionals in India but also had the guidance of his grandfather, composer Sardar Malik, his composer father Daboo Malik, his uncle Anu Malik and his younger brother, pop artist Armaan Malik. After nearly a decade of assisting (and eventually leading) background scores and composing songs for Bollywood films such as Sarkar, Youngistaan and Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mallik broke out as a filmi music composer in his own right in 2014, teaming up with his brother and singer Marianne D'Cruz for the love ballad “Tumko To Aana Hi Tha”. Soon after, Mallik became a sought-after name delivering hits for the rock-leaning soundtrack to sports biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, the lilting love song “Soch Na Sake” from Airlift and the party banger of the year, “Kar Gayi Chull” (recreating the song by hip-hop and pop star Badshah). Mallik reunited “Soch Na Sake” singers Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar in 2016 for another romantic ballad, “Salamat” from Sarbjit, further strengthening his reputation. By 2019, he had also lit up the soundtrack to Kabir Singh with “Yeh Aaina” with Shreya Ghoshal. More film music has followed as well as pop hits with his brother, plus collaborations such as his song with Matteo Bocelli, “I Miss You Amore”.
