About GRiZ
Self-described “future funk” DJ and producer GRiZ blends dubstep, house, soul, and other sounds into a danceable hybrid that he tops off with live saxophone. • Born Grant Richard Kwiecinski, GRiZ grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and began playing saxophone after first taking up the oboe. He was good enough to play first-chair sax in his school’s band. • After honing his skills at—and eventually dropping out of—Michigan State University, GRiZ released his debut album, End of the World Party, in 2011. • He broke through with his 2016 album Good Will Prevail, which debuted atop the iTunes Electronic chart. It also cracked the Billboard 200. • His 2019 bass single ”Griztronics,” a collaboration with new-age dubstep maestro Subtronics, was a festival favorite the year it came out. • GRiZ has been a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ representation in music, and in June 2020, he teamed up with freeform bass DJ and producer Wreckno for the Pride anthem “Medusa.” • Since 2013, GRiZ has periodically performed alongside the electro-funk outfits Big Gigantic and Gramatik in the supergroup Big Grizmatik.
