About Chris Brown

Chris Brown started early, teaching himself to sing and dance while looking up to role models like Michael Jackson and USHER. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, in 1989, he signed to Jive Records in 2004 and released his self-titled debut the next year, when he was still just 16 years old. Bringing hip-hop swagger to Brown’s smooth yet emotional R&B, that LP has since sold more than four million copies in the US alone, a feat replicated by his 2007 follow-up, Exclusive. Boasting top-shelf producers and features from Lil Wayne and Justin Bieber, his stylistically diverse 2011 outing F.A.M.E. won the Grammy for Best R&B Album. Brown has continued to secure rafts of awards and commercial milestones—as well as release videos that showcase his prowess and innovation as a dancer. Even while doing full-length collabs with rappers like Tyga and Young Thug, he has maintained a firm grasp on the evolving sound of modern R&B, incorporating everything from trap to dancehall into his sound. It helps that his later albums often sail past the 20-track mark (even before the deluxe edition), packing in as many guests and ideas as possible. So, it somehow makes sense when Brown marries gospel and New Age on a track like 2025’s “Holy Blindfold,” pulling off that unusual balancing act with as much agility as he devotes to his tightly wound choreography.
