About Asim Azhar
Pakistani pop artist Asim Azhar’s penchant for Punjabi and Urdu stories of love and heartbreak has made him a global presence representing South Asia. Born in Karachi to a renowned pianist and veteran actor, Azhar first found fame online after creating Urdu remixes of pop hits including Ed Sheeran’s “The A Team” when he was 15. By the age of 18, he became the youngest artist ever featured on Coke Studio Pakistan, delivering “Tera Woh Pyar” with singer Momina Mustehsan in 2016. The ballad became a cross-border cultural phenomenon. In 2019, Azhar’s hit song “Ghalat Fehmi” with Zenab Fatimah Sultan from the movie Superstar went viral, following on from another border-transcending hit, “Jo Tu Na Mila”, in 2018. His album BEMATLAB was steeped in R&B and pop with rap guests including Talhah Yunus and Talha Anjum. Yet 2025 marked his most radical shift: On his 29th birthday, he reinvented his identity, releasing the independent album Asim Ali. Eschewing the pop he was known for in his early days, Azhar led with a new-found bold emotional honesty on tracks such as “Lost n Found”.
