About Christoph Koncz

Born in 1987 in Konstanz, Germany, into an Austrian Hungarian musical family, Christoph Koncz rose to international fame at the age of 10, when he portrayed the musical prodigy Kaspar Weiss in the movie The Red Violin. The role was just the first high-profile gig for the German-born musician and conductor, who had his first violin lessons at age four before studying at what was then called the Academy of Music in Vienna. Koncz made his concerto debut as a violin soloist at age 12 with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and was appointed principal second violin of the Vienna Philharmonic at age 20. He has also served as chief conductor with German chamber orchestra Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss am Rhein and principal guest conductor of the French period instrument band Les Musiciens du Louvre. In 2020, Koncz polished his performance credentials with Mozart’s Violin: The Complete Violin Concertos, a fluid, lyrically engaging set using Mozart’s own violin.
