Swedish pop-folk duo Smith & Thell broke through with their breezy 2015 single “Statue (The Pills Song),” paving the way for international success. • Singer/songwriter Maria Jane Smith and producer/songwriter Victor Thell met as teenagers in their hometown of Helsingborg, Sweden. They first collaborated in 2012, releasing the single “Kill It With Love.” • In 2015, their single “Statue (The Pills Song)” earned them Rookie Artist of the Year honors at Sweden’s Denniz Pop Awards. • Smith & Thell followed their 2017 debut album, Soulprints, with the 2018 EP Telephone Wires. The latter features the single “Forgive Me Friend,” featuring Swedish Jam Factory, which made Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, giving the duo their first US chart placement.
