About Hands Like Houses
Like many bands who started out playing ferocious post-hardcore, Hands Like Houses have steadily branched out beyond their metallic roots and cultivated a broader, more accessible sound. Formed in 2008 in Canberra, the group debuted two years later with the introspective single “This Ain’t No Place for Animals,” which also appeared on their 2012 album Ground Dweller. The following year’s Unimagine reached the top 10 of several US charts, setting the stage for 2016’s Dissonants, which peaked at No. 7 in Australia. Inspired by stories of disparate people outside of the band, their 2018 concept album Anon. featured the powerful singles “Monster” and “Sick,” with the latter cracking the Top 40 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart in the US. A 2020 self-titled EP showcased a more adventurous side of Hands Like Houses, as evidenced by the skyscraping post-rock track “Space.” And after vocalist/keyboardist Trenton Woodley left the band in 2023, new recruit Josh Raven gradually introduced himself with a series of EPs that evolved into the 2025 double LP ATMOSPHERICS.
