About Valerie June
Valerie June has built her career on an amalgam of folk, soul, blues, and other American roots traditions which she synthesizes into a distinctive and timeless sound all her own. The Tennessee-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist began her career in Memphis, where she received some early attention for a pair of independent releases and her participation in the 2009 MTV series $5 Cover. June's critical and commercial breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of her Dan Auerbach-produced third album, Pushin' Against a Stone. With a significant audience in Europe as well as the U.S., June's ascent continued with 2017's highly rated The Order of Time, another critically lauded release showcasing her unique sound. Her fifth album, 2021's The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions for Dreamers, featured a guest spot from Memphis soul legend Carla Thomas, and she later paid tribute to her roots with the 2022 covers EP Under Cover. June's sound underwent another sea change with 2025's gritty, indie rock-oriented Owls, Omens, and Oracles, produced by M. Ward.
