Devonté Hynes

As Blood Orange, Devonté Hynes progressively mixes soul, funk, post-punk, and chillwave, all the while incorporating lyrical themes such as identity, sexuality, belonging, and spirituality. The British singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer established himself in the mid-2000s as a member of Test Icicles before he issued two albums as Lightspeed Champion. Blood Orange debuted with Coastal Grooves (2011), and concurrent with a period during which Cupid Deluxe (2013), Freetown Sound (2016), and Negro Swan (2018) each registered on the album charts in the U.K. and U.S., Hynes was sought after by the varied likes of Solange and Philip Glass. He also became noted for his soundtrack work and earned a Grammy nomination for his classical composition Fields. Essex Honey (2025), the first Blood Orange album in six years, dealt with loss and promoted self-acceptance with Zadie Smith, Lorde, and Daniel Caesar among Hynes' supporting cast. Hynes then composed the music for the A24 film The Invite (2026).
