Dream Fatigue

Dream Fatigue

Rex Orange County has long been associated with the bedroom-pop movement, a style he helped popularize on early albums like 2016’s Bcos U Will Never B Free and 2017’s Apricot Princess. On 2024’s The Alexander Technique, he expanded his scope, working across a number of studios and recruiting producers like James Blake and Teo Halm to help forge his sound. Recorded in North America, Europe, and Africa, Dream Fatigue, released in 2026, is the logical extension of this process, a globetrotting affair in which Rex concocts something both deeply intimate and ambitious. “Elvis” is a collaboration with Turnstile’s Brendan Yates, imagining the hardcore icon as a soulful crooner on the smooth-pop love jam. Rex, meanwhile, reframes Elvis’ famous shaking legs to describe the way he feels when encountering the partner he loves. “The Colosseum” features vocals from Mustafa, who provides a powerful, deep counterpoint to Rex’s searching, upper-register delivery. Our Favorite Track: the raw vulnerability of the album-closing “Dream Fatigue.”
