Little Miracles

Little Miracles

Dan Sultan was so content with 2023’s confessional Dan Sultan that, for a while there, he thought it could be a good note on which to end. Then he met British producer and songwriter Guy Chambers, the man behind hits for Robbie Williams, Tina Turner, and Sir Paul McCartney, and a sixth studio album very quickly became a reality. The duo wrote and recorded Little Miracles in under three weeks, and their songwriting partnership sees the proud Eastern Arrernte and Gurindji man explore Johnny Marr-esque riffing (“Piece of Mind”), ’90s Manchester (“Forgiveness”), power pop (“One Star at a Time”), and gospel (“Needing Love”). Family and home are recurring themes, from stirring opener “There’s a River” (“The home that we have made/The memories we have saved/A place for you and I to raise our kin”) to “Sunshower” (“When you see the first of many rainbows at your feet/You know that you have finally made it home”). “One Star at a Time” is about self-belief and blocking out external voices (“Never follow what they say/’Cause it’s old tomorrow gone today”), a theme that also reverberates through “Find the Light,” in which Sultan backs his artistic vision over outside influences. The power of forgiveness (“Forgiveness”) and love (“Needing Love,” “Here for Love”) are also strong influences on Little Miracles, an album that ends with Sultan repeating the mantra, “I’m only here for love/I’m only here for you.”
