On the back of their head-spinning 2024 debut WOOF., South London rabble-rousers Fat Dog established themselves as the wildest gang in town, their raucous live shows making them a must-see act. It meant that their deft songcraft—which, let’s be honest, no one wants to start talking about in the middle of a really entertaining gig—was sometimes overlooked but it will be impossible to ignore after this second record. Cancel Me (I’m Tired) is a thrilling whirlwind of unpindownable excellence, taking in electro-punk bangers, spaghetti Western alt-pop, and hook-laden rave-rock across its first nine tracks before finally settling on “Aliens,” a Beatles-y epic that sounds like its being launched into space. If you’ve ever wondered what Gorillaz would sound like being ambushed by The Prodigy, then wonder no more. Indeed, talking about second track “Go Fuck Urself” on its release as a single in May 2026, multi-instrumentalist Chris Hughes told Apple Music: “It’s a song for everyone who expects the same thing over and over, the frustrations of being pigeonholed into a genre. We’ve alienated a lot of people who seem obsessed with us being ‘punk’ or whatever. We aren’t that, we’re just trying to make music we want to hear.” Our Favorite Moment: One of the songs that stops to take a breath, “Heart of Darkness” is a wistful slice of Morricone-influenced indie pop that sums up ringleader Joe Love’s way of bringing together charming melodies and wayward lyricism.
