Though he hails from Detroit, Luhh Dyl eschews the city’s signature sounds on his 2025 album Hear My Cry. He trades in the energetic basslines and off-kilter flows that have become so prevalent in the Motor City for something more personal and vulnerable. His verses are imbued with rapid-fire deliveries focused on the obstacles he faced to reach his current status as one of rap’s most exciting young voices. On “Child Lock,” the sample gives the song a mournful, cathartic edge as Dyl raps, “Life ain't that hard, we slept on the ground.” Every time he feels like giving up, calling it quits, or caving into the pressure he’s placed on himself, he perseveres. It could always be worse. Take “O Lord, Hear My Cry.” He makes it clear that though he finds plenty of motivation in his desire to be great, his hard work is dedicated to those he loves most: “I’ve been tryna go hard, they need me/My granny in need, I got nothin’ to spare.”
