It's All Here - EP

Kaytetye producer Rona Glynn-McDonald, aka RONA., explores both First Nations futurism and ancient wisdom on this richly textured EP. The centerpiece is “Mars,” which envisions a future devoted to our own immediate soil and water rather than interplanetary conquests. On that track, Glynn-McDonald integrates and manipulates her vocals to make them yet another mesmerizing musical element. She similarly creates a trance-like incantatory quality with her vocal repetition over the softly thumping beat of opener “Show Me,” while the more clubby entry, “The Blacks,” is anchored by a vocal sample reinforcing the connection between First Nations language and culture. Even the purely instrumental tracks take direct inspiration from Glynn-McDonald’s sense of Country—she divides her time between the urban backdrop of Melbourne and the more remote desert landscape of Alice Springs—with “Apmere” building its initial rhythm from traditional clapsticks set against woozy washes of synth. Whether propulsive and hard-hitting or softer and more inquisitive, these six tracks encourage us to reflect internally as much as react with blissful bodily movement.
