Anchored by a title track that barrels out of the speakers like a locomotive, Ace of Spades is a deafening salute to speed, power, and violent forward propulsion. Motörhead’s fourth album is also their leanest. What little breathing room can be found on predecessors Overkill and Bomber has been ruthlessly cut out. Just as one hellish blitz of bass, drums, and feedback ends, another starts right up. The music is so elemental that debating whether it’s metal, rock, or punk is pointless. Just crank it.
