It takes guts to cover one of the biggest songs of the moment. Fortunately, Sigrid nails it on her Apple Music Home Session, as she offers a soft take on Ed Sheeran’s 2021 smash “Bad Habits.” “I wanted to do a cover of a song that people would recognize, but do it in my own way,” the Norwegian singer-songwriter tells Apple Music. “Doing ‘Bad Habits’ is obviously a bit intimidating, and I hope his fans will approve.” Elsewhere, Sigrid swaps the disco melodies of her own 2021 smash “Mirror” for acoustic, reflective guitars and twinkling piano. “It sounds like someone just grabbed the guitar around the bonfire in a midsummer night in Norway, and I’m here for it,” adds the singer. Here, the track’s emboldened lyrics (“I love who I see/Looking at me in the mirror”) shine even brighter, as the song builds to be every bit as uplifting as the original. “I guess I just try to squeeze even more emotion out of the lyrics, as if you were speaking to someone who needs to hear it,” adds Sigrid. “Every time I make acoustic versions of songs, they all become just a tiny bit more sentimental and nostalgic.” Like most artists, Sigrid is itching to get on stage again after the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. But don’t expect the composure of this Home Session to feature. “I just know that the first time I’m back on stage with my band and crew, I’ll probably have an overload of emotions resulting in an adrenaline-hyped Norwegian girl running around screaming more than singing,” she adds. “Sorry in advance, it’ll be loud.”
