Still Waters is a soulful blast of nu-disco from a talented member of the Ed Banger family. On the opening “Back for More,” Breakbot mastermind Thibaut Berland issues a promise that things are going to get physical, with a string-sweetened groove, a bassline that recalls the Knight Rider theme, and a yearning, lyrical mating call between Sarah Ydoux and Berland’s musical soulmate, Irfane (a skillfully emotive mood-shifter who also delivers impassioned vocals over the slinky R&B of “2Good4Me”). Reinforced by the electro-funk charge of “Get Lost,” Still Waters is sonic escapism at its most pleasurable.
