Editors’ Notes This group's early avant-garde sides show their expressive potential just as clearly as their groove-oriented mid-'70s sessions. On “Unknown Soldiers,” Wayne Shorter's saxophone blasts fast, experimental sounds, as well as ambient noises that play well with Joe Zawinul's keyboards. After their touring heyday as a prog-fusion outfit, Shorter and Zawinul continued to collaborate on evocative funk opuses like 1983's “Procession.”
