Tate McRae: Music That Moves Me

“This playlist gets me through my daily workouts,” Tate McRae tells Apple Music’s Rebecca Judd of her Music That Moves Me playlist. “There’s nothing like motivating pop music!” As the purveyor of her fair share of pop bangers (including 2023’s excellent “greedy”), it’s unsurprising that the Canadian star’s go-to workout mix comprises big pop moments. They include Troye Sivan’s “Rush,” Dua Lipa’s “Physical,” and Beyoncé’s “Sweet Dreams,” as well as summer 2023’s omnipresent Barbie hits (“Barbie World (with Aqua)” from Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice and Charli XCX’s zooming “Speed Drive”). “I’ve picked the best tracks to get you up and moving this New Year,” says McRae. “A key to a good workout song is that it puts you into a specific mood that makes you wanna move, regardless of if it’s getting your anger out or making you happier or making you wanna dance. It just needs to get you into the zone.” The one artist that always jump-starts her own workout? “Any Ariana Grande song gets me in the mood to get up and move,” says McRae. You’ll find four Ariana tracks here, plus Drake’s “Nice for What,” which McRae describes as her perfect “hype song.” McRae says working out is an essential tool for giving it her all on stage, adding that she also favors lifting weights and Pilates. That’s probably not the reason most of us would get up early to work out in the morning, so let McRae give you another. “The first thing I do in the morning is get up and have a coffee—every single morning. I go get ready for the gym and, at around 8 or 9 am, I’m usually working out,” she says. “I’m definitely a night person—mornings are hard for me to wake up, but my workout helps me become more of a morning person.” Get going now—with help from the songs right here.
