Releasing albums nearly every couple of years since their 1998 debut and swapping out personnel even more often, Sweden's Soilwork have charted a steadily restless course through metal. Initially cranking out precision-tooled, Gothenburg-style melodic death thrash, they advanced through a metalcore stage and eventually combined both styles with increasingly ethereal acoustic and keyboard textures. The constant has been Björn Strid, a singer equally proficient with furious growls and clean croons. He has consistently surrounded himself with soloists who balance tunefulness, thunder, and technique.
