Silverstein Essentials

Silverstein rode in on an early-2000s wave of Southern Ontario bands—Alexisonfire and Billy Talent among them—whose metallic post-hardcore riffs and throat-shredding screams were soothed by soaring, radio-ready melodies. On 2003’s screamo salvo “Smashed Into Pieces,” Shane Told’s voice slides from guttural to graceful and back again with uncommon ease, but with 2005’s “My Heroine,” he began to unleash that murderous growl more strategically to greater dramatic effect. The band have continued to fine-tune the formula over the years, amplifying their pop appeal on 2019 single “Burn It Down” without sacrificing their innate intensity.
