Ricky Martin Essentials

A versatile artist whose career and discography spans over three decades, Ricky Martin is largely responsible for introducing stateside audiences to the sounds of Latin American pop. Following a stint in the 1980s with Puerto Rican boy band Menudo, the then-teenage singer kicked off what would prove a hugely successful solo career with a 1991 eponymous album debut in Spanish. His bilingual 1995 single “Maria” set the stage for future successes in the US market around the turn of the millennium, including the smash hits “She's All I Ever Had” and "Livin' la Vida Loca.” After that pivotal crossover moment, he proved to be an adept vocalist in both Spanish and English, demonstrating mastery of seemingly disparate genre styles. With exuberant dance numbers like “Drop It on Me” and “La Mordidita” and smoldering ballads such as “Tal Vez,” he’s maintained an iconic status. Linking with música urbana hitmakers like Maluma and Wisin & Yandel, Martin has even left his mark on the world of reggaetón via sleek singles “Vente Pa’ Ca” and “Fiebre.”
