Early in his career, Bluegrass Hall of Fame member Red Allen started a band with mandolin man Frank Wakefield, but in 1956 Allen joined up with the Osborne Brothers, with whom the singer and guitarist cut some game-changing sides before finally starting up a new group with Wakefield. The pair found success fronting The Kentuckians together, until Wakefield left to play with The Greenbriar Boys. Allen continued on as a solo artist, working with everyone from David Grisman to J.D. Crowe over the years.
